We stayed one night with Nate's Aunt Cindy and Uncle Kent. Aurelia loved all the puppies that were there (I didn't get any pictures). We also went out to an olive mill, it was very interesting, I know a lot more about olive oil now!

Downstairs Bathroom Remodel

The downstairs bathroom was a real thrown together job. It was a scary bathroom and the shower was just Masonite walls painted white, not even a real shower! It is leaps and bounds ahead of what it used to be!

I painted and decorated it and this is how it turned out

filling in the crack and adding a real drain in the floor instead of a giant hole

New linoleum tile floor

Finished and decorated, new mirror, towel ring, sink and faucet from the upstairs bathroom, new toilet seat, new towel bar, new robe hook, new storage cabinet, new t.p. holder, different wastebasket, new rug, new walls, new floor, painted the whole room, new trim, new tile floor in the shower, new tile board in the shower.

I love how this turned out!

Bathroom Remodel - Upstairs

It has been a while, okay, a long time, since I posted on here. Let me see what kind of pics I have on my laptop to share.

My brother came to visit in July for 2 weeks and we remodeled both of our bathrooms. I don't have before pictures on this computer to share, but I have demo pictures, which will give you an idea of how outdated the main bathroom was. It is a tiny bathroom, but it feels much more open and spacious with the updates!

The sink is already out, but most of the bathroom is still intact

Justin grabed a hold of this and pulled and the tiles just came with it!

Justin starting to lay tile. Lots of work has gone into this room, changing some plumbing fittings and putting up new green board in the shower surround.

Tile floor is finished, we went with diagonal to make it seem larger, it is only 3-4 feet across, and you would really be able to tell that with 12x12 tiles laid square in the room!

We added some new trim to the old medicine cabinet to freshen it up.

New sink is in and Nate is helping Justin install the toilet

My Machine is fixed!

My husband of all things, whom I love dearly, but who has no mechanical skills what-so-ever, figured out that we had a tool that would fit this tiny hexagonal hole at the top of the needle housing. He called it something like a hex-nut, haha. Anyways, all it took was putting the housing back in place and tightening up the screw. Way to go Honey!

In the Market for a New Sewing Machine

Several years ago I found a Brother XL 5600 sewing machine on clearance at TJ Maxx. It was an awesome deal and over the past few years, my sewing machine and I have done a lot of work together. But alas, I think my $70 deal from TJ Maxx may have run it's course.

I have been sewing a lot these past few months and my machine has been complaining. It let me know I haven't been taking very good care of it by revolting a couple weeks back. First the walking presser foot stopped working, so I took it all apart, cleaned it and oiled it. I started sewing again, going only a couple of inches before the bobbin started acting strange, pulling up threads. So I took that all apart and cleaned it and oiled it. I got it all put back together, sewed a few more inches and then the thread got all caught up inside the top of the machine, so I took that all apart, cleaned it and oiled it. Then I was finally able to finish sewing the seam I was working on.

Today I was sewing on the eye of Spots the owl, the prize of today's Giveaway from Honeybunch Boutique, and the metal clamp piece that holds the needle fell off. It looks like there is a hole for a screw to go in and hold the piece to the piston that drives the needle up and down, but the screw is gone and I cannot find any missing pieces.

I will have to take it in and see if it can be fixed, if not, then I will have to buy myself an early birthday present. What a chore that will be, to find my self a new, fancy sewing machine. ;)

Crafty Name for Etsy

I need your ideas, so please comment!!! I know I don't post as often as I used to, but hopefully I still have some readers that can help me!

I need a catchy and creative name for the Etsy account I am thinking of opening. The plan is to sell ragged blankets, paci clips, burp clothes, baby wraps, handmade stuffed animals, snuggle blankets, headbands, hair bows, knit and crocheted scarves and hats for kids and women and whatever else I come up with.

The name should be cute and kind of related to baby stuff, cause that will be my focus for now, getting started, but I also want to be able to branch out into other things.

Word thoughts: crafty, unique, creative, cozy, cutesy

The name could also just be a cute name, it doesn't have to do much with craftiness, the creative craftiness part can be in the tag line.

We recently had new doors installed, the old ones were original to the house, did not open/close very well and were not well insulated. I think these will be a huge improvement this winter! One thing I don't like is they are WHITE, any suggestions for colors? Here is a picture of our house, don't mind the ugly landscaping or the mop and bucket.

Aurelia and I went down to my folks for a few days during the week two weeks ago, my brother was up to help Richard do a wood flooring job. Then we all went down for the weekend too. Always something going on there right now since Gina and Richard are staying there while they get their lodging ready on the build site of their new house!

One morning Nate was very thoughtful and got up with Aurelia so I could sleep in for a bit. Sleeping in didn't last long. Not even 15 minutes and Nate yells to me from the livingroom, "Honey, she had a blowout" I yell back at him, "It's just poop, deal with it!" He yells back, "It is really bad, I need help."

So I drag myself out of bed and into the living room to find this!

If Aurelia could talk, "What? Who, me? I didn't do anything!"

Nate, "Hurry up, it is starting to smell really bad!"

Aurelia has been sitting up lately, she is getting better and better every day. She started out sitting in her Boppy pillow last week.

This week we moved on to just having a couple pillows behind her in case she were to get excited about something and throw herself back, as babies do.

Sometimes she leans way forward,

and ends up doing a face-plant and switching to tummy time

It all started when I found some jeans for a majorly good deal, I got 4 pair of jeans at TJ Maxx on clearance for 50 cents, and one was 70 cents. They are size 54-60 waist, so I am not going to wear them, but remake them into other things.

This was my first use of the pants, I used one leg of these Levi's jeans, and I still have a large portion of the mid-leg material left! I paired it with cream and pink houndstooth, it is also reversible, but I think I will keep the jean side out, so we will call it lined.

This pair of jeans was button fly!

Inside, I used a magnet clasp, with cost more than all the material that went into the bag, and the bottom of the pant leg for the pockets

This past week I went down to see my folks and my sister and her family. Gina and I worked on some sewing projects on Monday and Tuesday. We got a lot done, considering we had a 4 yr. old, a 21 mo. old and a 5 week old to take care of while we were working.

This blanket was Gina's idea and my handywork. She saw some online, flowers for baby girls and teddy bears for boys. The ones she saw were 5 petals, but I made 6, since I could use a large circle to evenly space out 6 petals, so they were all the same size. 5 petals would be cute though. This was pretty easy to make, just cut out the material, sew it good sides together and leave a section open to put your hand through to turn it right side out. Then sew around the outside and add the center of the flower.

This is the baby sling Gina made for me, works great and it is reversible, so I can use it pink or green, depending on what goes with my outfit, or if we have a boy later, we can use the green side out :) She got the directions online somewhere, maybe she will put the address in the comments.

I got the idea to make bandanna skirts for the girls from Neisha's blog, but we ended up making t-shirt dresses, sewing a bandanna skirt onto a t-shirt, worked out good and it was pretty easy. Gina then made a little bandanna dress for Aurelia too.

I must say that I think this is the cutest outfit Aurelia has to date. The dress is adorable, the headband cute as a button, literally, the black center is a button, and she also has a ruffle-butt onesie to wear with it, I will have to get some more pictures of her this Sunday, I will have her wear it to meeting.
Since the ribbons are the straps, the size of the dress is adjustable and she will be able to wear it as a shirt when she grows out of it as a dress. Levi was nice enough to model this for us!

I also took on the project of revamping a skirt for Olivia, added the bottom ruffle and a couple patches, one was a cute way to camouflage a stain

Aurelia's Birth Story

I was due April 7th, and at my Dr. appt. on Tuesday the 13th there was no change in my cervix, I had had no contractions and I had been trying everything; what got the baby in should get it out, using my breast pump, bouncing on an exercise ball, evening primrose oil, a low dose of castor oil. Nothing was getting anything started. I went to bed at about 11:30 Tuesday night, as I was just about to fall asleep remember thinking "If my water would just break, that would get things going" And as if on cue I felt a little gush, nothing major, but I got up to go to the bathroom, and when I sat down on the pot, about 1/4 c. more fluid gushed out, and that was it, no leaking or anything.

Small contractions started and I called my sister/doula, Gina. She told me to go back to bed, if labor intensified, call her later. I slept a little bit, but the contractions got worse in bed and I had to start breathing through them, nothing too painful, but enough change that I called Gina at about 4:30 and she got ready and came up, getting to our house at about 6:30. By that time contractions had hit a lull and I was sleeping on the couch.

We called my Dr. around 7:00 and she wanted me to come in right away cause my water broke. However, we knew that if we went in the clock would start ticking and they would want to augment labor, since I wasn't in a good labor 'pattern' as they put it. I told my Dr. that my water broke at 4:00 :) to give us some more time, and she was surprised, since my cervix was not preparing when she checked me the day before. Gina and I stayed at home for a while, we went for a long walk and contractions would come about every 5 min, but nothing I couldn't walk through.

When we got back from our walk we called the Dr. again and she wanted us to come in so she could check me and also confirm that my water broke. So we called Nate, and told him to come home, he had gone in to work. We headed out for the hospital and got there at about 11:00.

We got settled in our room and the Dr. came in and checked my progress at about noon, I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced and -2 station. She was very pleased with this progress, since I was at zero the day before. However, she was already threatening pitocin, since I was not having a "good labor pattern" of contractions, which is having a contraction every 1-3 minutes! She usually starts women on pitocin 2 hours after their water breaks if they are not having a regular pattern! 2 hours, that is hardly any time if you want to have a natural labor and delivery! Anyways, we had gone way past her 2 hour limit, plus another 4 and 1/2 hours, since she didn't get the accurate time that my water broke. So, if I wasn't having good contractions by 2:30, she wanted to start me on pit!

They monitored the baby and she was doing fine, so I got up and walked the halls, but didn't have regular contractions, and the ones I did have were activity induced and not terribly strong, things were not looking good for having a natural labor. At 4:00 the nurse finally got the pit going, in an IV that was very painful I might add. The dose was 2 ml units, increased by 2 every 20 minutes. I walked the halls as much as I could on portable monitoring, but when I moved around the sensor would slide down and loose the baby's heart rate, so I ended up having to stay in my room eventually. At 5:00 I had a supper of clear liquids.

My friend Stephanie was in town on an errand, so she stopped by to see how things were going. We visited a while but by 6:50 contractions took all my attention to get through and Stephanie decided to get going. By 7:15 the pitocin was up to 12 and I asked them to turn it back to 10 because the contractions were so painful and so close together. The nurse said that they don't usually turn it down, but I must have sounded pretty desperate, cause she did. To help with the pain of the contractions Nate and Gina took turns pushing into my lower back to provide counter pressure.

At 8:15 we decided to have the nurse check me to see how much progress I had made on the pitocin. I was 3 cm and zero station, which was some change, but for over 4 hours of pitocin contractions, I knew I wasn't going to be able to make it to 10 cm with out some relief from the pain. When the nurse told me I was only 3 cm, I fell apart. I said that I couldn't do it any more and we decided that I would get the epidural. At 8:35 they gave me a dose of Numorphan, which helped relieve a bit of the pain, and relaxed me between the contractions. At 9:00 a very polite and efficient Anesthesiologist gave me an epidural. RELIEF!! I could feel the pressure of the baby pushing on the top of my belly, but from my navel down, I couldn't feel anything.

My doctor came in to check my progress at 10:15 and before she even examined me she began to preparing me for a C-section, cause she didn't think I was making enough progress. However, when she finally checked, I was 6-7 cm and +1 station. Progress!!! She said she would stay at the hospital and be back when it was time to start pushing. About an hour and a half later I started to feel gushing with the contractions. I knew things were getting close now. At 11:55 the nurse checked me and I was complete. We took our time before I started pushing, letting the baby come down on it's own and getting everything set up.

At 12:45 I started pushing. At 1:23 Aurelia Ann was born. They put her up on my chest and she started crying, what a beautiful sound! Her apgar scores were 7 and 9. She had the cord wrapped around her neck and also had a bowel movement when she was born, a sign of stress. She was doing fine though, we had a healthy baby girl! The Dr. assisted the placenta so she could stitch me up, I had a 2nd degree tear.

Aurelia weighed in at 8 lbs. 2 oz. and she was 20 1/2 inches long. Nate gave her her first bath with the nurse's instruction, he was very concerned about doing everything the right way. I got up, with the help of Gina and the nurse, and took a sitz bath, then changed into a fresh gown. Things settled down then. I tried nursing Aurelia, but she didn't latch on very well. At about 4:00 a.m. Nate and Gina headed back to the house to get some sleep and I snuggled with precious baby girl.

I got this glider rocking chair at an auction this past fall for $17.50. I didn't take a before picture, but the back cushion is the original material. I spray painted the chair black, it was a blond wood before.

This ended up a bit bigger than I had planned, it is more like a baby suitcase than a diaper bag, but it will work good for overnight stays or longer trips

This is everything we got from the shower my Mom's side of the family had for us. You can't really see the dresser behind it all, but that is the only picture I have right now.

Baby Clothes

So I have been looking for deals on baby clothes, since I think I am having one shower before and two showers after the baby is born, so I will need something to clothe the little one in until then! I love searching out the good deals, and have been trying to stay gender neutral except I would like to have one girl outfit and one boy outfit on hand to bring the baby home in. Then it can live in sleepers and onesies until after the showers, where it will probably get a fair amount of its wardrobe!

Here are my current purchases, total of $9 spent, the monkey shirt was $3 itself, so that is what threw off my average of less than $1 each.

Baby clothes are so cute. I also have some undershirts and baby boy clothes from Gina, so I think we can last about a week to 5 days, if we don't have too many blowouts! I still need to get a baby boy outfit, in case it is a boy. It is fun to shop for cute little clothes, even more so when I will have the little one here to shop for and dress up!

We test drove a Chrysler Pacifica, that was totally decked out and also a really good deal, but it was a good chunk of change more than this one. We also test drove a Honda Pilot and Odysse, which are both very nice cars, but there were no good deals on a used one, so they would also cost quite a bit more than this one. We like them both though, even the minivan, it has really nice features, maybe someday :)

Here are some of the projects I have made in the last couple of months. Lots of baby blankets, since we are in the midst of a baby boom in my family! This makes a dent in the pile of material that I have downstairs (I love buying material), but I still have many more projects to work on.

We had our ultrasound today. Everything looks great, baby is in the 55th percentile for about every measurement, so that is good. Nate was worried about the ultrasound, so I think he is relieved, to see that everything is going just fine. The baby was moving around a lot, more than what I can feel. Nate was amazed at how much the baby was moving!

The doctor said that my placenta is at the back of my uterus, so I will be able to feel a lot of movement at the front later in the pregnancy.

We didn't find out what we are having, it will be a surprise!!! It was great to finally see the baby. Everything is there, now it will just gain weight and grow bigger every week!

This is all I have for the pictures of how to can apples, Gina and I were a little too busy working to take pictures I guess. We canned 23 Quarts and 24 pints of applesauce. It took us about 5 or 6 hours, which I don't think is too bad for the amount of work we got done and that includes cleanup time.

*Gina says that I made this sound too easy, like it wasn't much work. It was a ton of work, we were both wiped out after being on our feet all day. But it felt good to look at the rows and rows of jars and be able to say, "We did that!"*

Here is the material I bought today for my new sewing project(s), actually I am making three of the same thing. Diaper bags, one for my sister-in-law, one for Jami and one for me!
